THE PEOPLES LIBERATION ARMY THROUGH THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN FREETOWN OFFICIALLY DONATED TEN ORTHOPEDIC BEDS TO THE DEFENCE MEDICAL SERVICES AT THE 34 MILITARY HOSPITAL WILBERFORCE BARRACKS
The Defence Medical Services of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) officially received Ten (10) donated Orthopedic Beds from the People’s Liberation Army of China through the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone. The official handing over was done on Wednesday 25 March 2025 at the 34 Military Hospital Wilberforce Barracks.
In his opening statement, the Deputy Commandant of the Defence Medical Services (DMS) Colonel Dr G Luseni welcomed all members present onbehalf of the Commandant of DMS. As the 34 Military Hospital is charged with the responsibility of providing medical care for the RSLAF Personnel and the wider Wilberforce community “A task we are very much up to” he stated. About two weeks ago, the DMS organized an orientation ceremony for their Chinese medical colleagues from the Peoples Republic of China. He emphasized that, they work closely and collaborate in order to ensure that they provide medical services adequately.
Hence, it is in this vein that they were there to witness the official donation of Ten (10) Orthopedic Beds to the RSLAF. He furthered that, the donation is timely and they will utilize the items donated for the right purpose. He further commended the Chinese Government and by extension the People’s Liberation Army for their tremendous contribution to the RSLAF in terms of technical support, infrastructure, medical care and Hospital equipment.
The 34 Military Hospital is expanding from 150 Beds Hospital to 600 Beds facility thus, the RSLAF needed such support as they will be moving from level 2 Hospital to Level 3. He concluded by thanking the Chief of Defence Staff of the RSLAF Major General AI Bangura for his immense support provided to the DMS during the past 4 months he has been in office.
The Chinese Defence Attaché Senior Colonel PU Lin stated that, China and Sierra Leone cooperation has always been cordial and that the Chinese Military Medical Expert Group and the 34 Military Hospital have been working together to provide enhanced medical services for the RSLAF and the people of Sierra Leone. He thanked the CDS-RSLAF, the Commandant and the Medical Staff of 34 Military Hospital for their support to the Chinese Military Medical Group. Finally, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, he officially donated the Ten (10) Orthopedic Beds to the 34 Military Hospital.
The Chief of Defence Staff of the RSLAF, Major General AI Bangura in his appreciation remarks stated that, he is carrying the vision of His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the RSLAF, Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr Julius Maada Bio (GCRSL), that the 34 Military Hospital must be a center for our Nation’s stability simply because health care brings stability. “We should develop a health care facility that would not only cater for the RSLAF but for the Nation” He emphasized.
The CDS-RSLAF also stressed that he wanted to see 34 Military Hospital as the first point of contact in terms of health care delivering in Sierra Leone. He urged all the Hospital Staff members to seize every opportunity to actualize the vision of His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief of the RSLAF.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Defence Medical Services, Colonel Dr Nabieu expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Chinese Government for the donation of the Orthopedic Beds, the Chief of Defence Staff for his support over the period and all Senior with Junior Staff for their dedication and hard work. As it is the first set of equipment donated to the Orthopedic Department of the 34 Military Hospital.
