STATEMENT ON THE SUDDEN AND TRAGIC DEATH OF THE LATE LIEUTENANT GENERAL (RTD) SAMUEL OMAR WILLIAMS, FORMER CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF OF THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE ARMED FORCES
REST IN PEACE
The tragic death of former Chief of Defence Staff, (Retired) Lieutenant General Samuel Omar Williams, in the early hours of Thursday 22nd December 2016 at his Devil Hole Residence was a shock for the Ministry of Defence and the entire Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
It was with great shocked and sadness that we learnt of the tragic and untimely passing of the former Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
The gentle remains of the late General were laid to rest on 8th January 2017 at the Military War Graves, Lumley with due pomp and pageantry. The funeral was well attended by mourners from all works of life.
The late General was a fine gentleman and a credit to the uniform he wore. He was a true soldier, leader and a man of valour. Lieutenant General SO Williams served in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces for twenty nine (29) years He will always be remembered in the annals of this nation as the first Officer to attain the rank of Lieutenant General.
